May 4, 2012

Venue to be announced

Facilitated by Donald Arsenault

CAAR has seen major growth as a Coalition in the last 2 years. We are now incorporated and have received charitable status. And we have benefited from the Investors Group Walk a Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser for a third year. We have a full time Outreach Worker, and in partnership with Family Service Moncton offer Moving Forward, a program for children who have witnessed intimate partner violence between the adults in their home. So, after 3 years of growth and development…

Strategic planning is a way of thinking about an organization and how to run it. It defines in advance where the organization is heading and how it will get there.

All in all, strategic planning is a cyclical process which helps the leaders of an organization reflect and make decisions by answering five basic questions:

1.	Where are we?

2.	Where do we want to go?

3.	What do we have to do to get there?

4.	How will we accomplish this?

5.	How will we know if we are succeeding?

In 2011, the John Howard Society of Southeastern NB Inc. launched its CSC funded Restorative Justice Project, Partner in Healing. Our goal is to provide enhanced opportunities for offender accountability, understanding of victim impacts and expressions of remorse for harm done. In addition, we have strived to educate members of the community about Restorative Justice and explore opportunities for greater community participation in matter of “justice”. A third priority of our work is to highlight the challenges faced by victims and provide opportunities for education, information sharing and meaningful involvement in the justice system. Collaboration and understanding between the restorative justice community and the victim service community seems essential as well strive to meet the complex needs of victims. Acknowledging the voice and validating the experience of victims is central to our work.

In keeping with our efforts to reach out to victims, as well as the victim serving community, we are excited to be hosting this 2 day workshop highlighting the challenges faced by those who have experienced trauma. The research is fascinating and Dr. Joseph and Dr. Zettl’s ability to provide practical implications for this information will be invaluable in our work with all those who are struggling to deal with the effects of PTSD. Please find attached the workshop overview as well as the registration form. Feel free to distribute amongst your agencies and contacts as you see fit. But remember, space is limited so register early!!

From the site: “Ghosts of Violence is an emotionally charged work inspired by the lives of women who have lost their lives at the hands of an intimate partner. It is an innovative and poignant call for awareness, understanding and action.

Through evocative lighting, theatre, music and multi-media, the ballet captures the memory of these silent victims and tells stories of their struggles, their hopes, their joys and our loss.”
