About Us

Building a journey to life without violence since 1990

Our History

CAAR Executive: Paulette Levesque - President, Julie McCabe - Vice President, Janice Tilley - Secretary, Terrance Trites - Treasurer

CAAR started in 1990 when service providers began to discuss what needed to be done to address the growing  problem of relationship violence in families, and among adolescents in dating relationships.

The original mission statement “The Coalition Against Abuse in Relationships believes all men, women and children have the right to live without physical, sexual, economical and emotional abuse” . This mission statement holds true today.

Love Without Violence: Dating Violence prevention.

The Intervener’s Guide (1991):  print resource for front line service providers, providing easy access to services and resources for persons who use or experience relationship violence.

Woman Abuse Help Card (1992): a list of resources and phone numbers for those experiencing abuse and violence within a relationship.

It’s Up to Me (1998): Respect, Bullying, Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships.

CAAR members have participated in local community events including the Purple Ribbon campaign, and the annual National Day of Remembrance on December 6,  national events including a presentation at the national conference on Bullying in 1991.
